The Aam Aadmi Party on Thursday alleged that the treasury benches and the Opposition were conniving and that the latter were deliberately disrupting proceedings of the short Assembly session
to give the government a smooth pathway and to avoid debate on burning issues, including the formalin-laced fish imbroglio.
Objecting to this modus operandi of the Opposition, AAP convener Elvis Gomes told a press conference that the government was keeping mum on important issues like the formalin fiasco.
“The monsoon session was an opportunity for the Opposition to make the government speak on the floor of the House but it wasted it,” Gomes said, alleging that there was ‘fixing’ between the two parties.
Gomes also recalled the failure of the Congress to raise its voice when the last Assembly session was curtailed due to Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar’s illness.
AAP urged both the opposition and the government to engage in fruitful debate and come up with solutions to the problem.
Gomes also noted that a majority of the MLAs are under investigation and alleged that the government was blackmailing the Opposition MLAs into silence.
“Banning fish from outside the state is not the solution. If something is found in vegetables, will the government ban it too,” asked Gomes.
