Oppn leader pitches for quick disposal of mundkarial cases

Lobo also said that the government complex in Mapusa, which houses various departments besides the key mamlatdar and deputy collector’s offices, has become congested where people have no space even to stand.

“We need to fast-track the mundkarial cases to give people of Goa justice. If this is not done, then somewhere down the line, even after 100 years of liberation, we will still see mundkarial and tenancy cases. It should end within a certain time. Give the officials one-and-half years or two years but finish it fast,” Lobo said.

The Leader of Opposition was addressing the media during his visit to the offices of the mamlatdar and deputy collector at the government complex in Mapusa.

Continuing, Lobo said his visit to Mapusa was to get a sense of the pending mundkarial and tenancy cases and how best and quickly the administration can resolve them.

There are 484 mundkarial declaration and 203 mundkarial purchase cases pending before various mamlatdar courts while 949 agricultural tenancy declaration and 141 tenancy purchase cases pending in Mapusa.

Besides, there are 1,983 mutation cases pending before the officials.

“Some of these mundkarial cases have been dragging for the last 25 years. How can we give justice to our people? I will be meeting the revenue minister to impress on him the need to fast-track these cases,” Lobo said.

The Opposition Leader said he will be visiting the mamlatdar and deputy collector’s offices in various talukas in the State to study how many cases are pending and about the problems they face.

He said people and the staff in Bardez were facing a lot of problems in the Mapusa office.

“There is an acute space constraint in the offices of the joint mamlatdars. The litigants have no place to even stand. The toilet facility was not up to the mark,” he said.

Lobo said he had proposed to build a 10-storied building in Mapusa on the spot so that all government offices could be housed in the same complex.
