MARGAO
Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat has on Sunday said the irresponsible and insensitive BJP Government has imposed a financial emergency in the State by emptying the State coffers and has now pushed the Goans into the Covid trap.
He demanded that Chief Minister Pramod Sawant must stop giving false promises and should “walk the talk” with regards to the action taken by the Government on various constructive suggestions made to it.
Addressing Goans through Facebook Live, the Leader of Opposition gave point-wise rebuttal to the allegations levelled by the Chief Minister against the Opposition. He appealed to the people of Goa not to keep any expectations from the Government with regards to the Covid pandemic and urged the people to take care of themselves by taking utmost precautions.
“The Chief Minister actually read out the failures of his Government in his 30-minute speech yesterday. His speech was clear-cut admission that the BJP Government had not done anything beyond making announcements and giving assurances. The Chief Minister could not speak about a single action plan initiated by the government,” Kamat charged.
He said the apathy of the Government has come to the fore with the Chief Minister now announcing to set up two liquid medical oxygen plants at Bambolim. The government has woken up almost after a year since the Covid pandemic started in India, he said, adding “the attitude of the government is like going to dig a well after feeling thirsty. The government spent the valuable time of the nationwide lockdown as well as 6 to 7 months after that on celebrations.
He said Covid patients in Goa are facing a nightmare with no beds available to them in the Covid hospitals as well as the Covid care centres. “I had raised eight important concerns pertaining to the Covid management and educational sector during the virtual meeting of all the 40 MLA’ convened by the Chief Minister. Surprisingly, the Chief Minister did not utter a word on the same in his speech yesterday,” he added.
Terming the announcement of the CM to provide 10,000 jobs as unrealistic, he said the Government has just advertised few posts but has not done any further process to actually recruit the youth. “I want to remind the people that the same BJP government had advertised various posts in the past and eventually had kept the entire recruitment process in abeyance. I have an Assembly reply wherein the government has clearly stated that they have not done any study of the vacancies existing in various departments of the Government,” he added.
