Calangute MLA Michael Lobo on Monday took charge as opposition leader and said his priority would be to take up the issue of mining consistently with the State government.
GPCC President Amit Patkar notified Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar that Lobo had been appointed as Congress Legislative Party leader and Aldona MLA Carlos Ferreira had been appointed Chief Whip of the Congress.
When asked to comment on his priorities as opposition leader, Lobo told reporters: “Taking up the issue of mining consistently with the State government is my priority.”
“As mining activity has closed, many people have lost their livelihood. Trucks have stopped operating. I will take up this issue to see that mining resumes in the State,” said Lobo.
The Opposition Leader said Congress will serve as a constructive opposition with the support of the RG, AAP and Goa Forward Party.
“Will work as constructive opposition in the coming days. Will take up all issues of Goa. I will personally meet RG and AAP MLAs. I have already met Vijai Sardesai,” said Lobo.
“Wherever required, we will be aggressive on the issues of public importance and will take up issues for the State,” he said.
GPCC President Amit Patkar said Lobo and other Congress MLAs will be the voice of the people. Congress MLAs will raise their voice against controversial projects and environmental issues,” said Patkar.
