Oppn parties condemn Shah’s public meeting at airport

Activist seeks FIR against organisers and BJP’s national president for holding the event

PANAJIrThe ‘public meeting’ organised by BJP to honour the arrival of BJP national president right at the Goa Airport has threatened to spiral into a full blown controversy after opposition political parties were quick to condemn the act of high handedness by the BJP. rA formal complaint has now been filed by lawyer-activist Aires Rodrigues alleging that the meeting was “illegal and unauthorised.” rIn the complaint jointly addressed to the Secretary of Ministry of Civil Aviation, Chief Secretary of Goa and DGP, Adv Rodrigues has sought that an FIR be registered against the organizers of that illegal public meeting besides Amit Shah and all the other dignitaries present at the meeting as they cannot now claim to be ignorant of the legal provisions. r“In total violation of law, on display was sycophancy at its worst, when Amit Shah arrived and contrary to the airport regulations, was allowed to address a public meeting of party workers within the airport premises,” Rodrigues said in his complaint pointing out that the Goa civilian airport functions within the naval base and is a defence establishment, rHe pointed out how a carpeted podium, chairs for the dignitaries and a sound system was all set up at the entrance of the Dabolim airport terminal where Amit Shah arrived at 11.15 am and addressed the public meeting with the airport and police officials conveniently looking the other way while the law was being blatantly breached. rEarlier, political parties were unanimous in the condemnation with the AAP’s State Convener Elvis Gomes and Congress condemning the public meeting at the venue. r“The BJP National President and Goa CM using the airport for party public meeting is a national shame. Power has intoxicated the BJP. It is unprecedented, displays moral bankruptcy. All ministers, MLAs and airport officials must be booked and penalised. We demand an inquiry,” Chodankar of Congress said.
