The ‘Amche Mollem Group’ commended Goa’s Opposition legislators for their spirited fight against the three linear projects threatening irreversible environmental damage in protected forests of Bhagwan Mahavir Wildlife sanctuary and Mollem National Park.
In a press note, the citizens’ movement thanked Goa’s Opposition leaders for listening to Goan voices and expressing their objections against the three projects in the Goa Legislative Assembly.
“Opposition leaders such as Digambar Kamat, Vijai Sardesai, Aleixo Reginald Lourenco, Luizinho Faleiro, Rohan Khaunte, Sudin Dhavalikar and others urged the ruling dispensation to respect the sentiments of the people and scrap the three projects,” the collective said in the press note. It said the government was exposed by one of its own MLAs -- Alina Saldanha of Cortalim constituency -- who stood against her own government pleading to scrap the projects and voicing the many problems faced by her constituents living alongside the railway tracks, the press note adds.
“It is absolutely appalling that despite the painstaking scientific studies, reports and realistic information disseminated to the government and its MLAs, most of them chose the future of vested corporates over the future of their own State and people,” Amche Mollem Group said reacting to the proceedings in the House.
Those MLAs who went against the interests of their homeland by voting against the resolution and those who abdicated their responsibility by staying away will forever be remembered for this betrayal, it added.
