Upping the ante in the crusade against the naming of the Mopa International airport, the opposition on Wednesday slammed Power Minister and MGP MLA Sudhin Dhavalikar’s flip-flop on the issue and vowed to launch a massive protest if the international airport at Mopa is not named after Goa’s first CM Bhausaheb Bandodkar.
The opposition also made their intention very clear against any move to name the airport after former union defence minister and ex-chief minister Manohar Parrikar.
Shiv Sena Goa President Jitesh Kamat said MGP MLAs Sudhin Dhavalikar and Jit Arolkar should make it clear whether they want the Mopa international airport to be named after ex-CM Bhausaheb Bandodkar or not.
“By sending the name of former chief minister Bhausaheb Bandodkar to the Centre as one of the names for the Mopa international airport and rejecting it is the biggest insult to the first CM of the State who has contributed immensely,” Kamat said.
“MGP leader Sudhin Dhavalikar should dare the BJP leadership instead of succumbing to pressure. For the sake of power he should not stoop so low,” he added.
The opposition leaders along with the members of the ‘Bhausaheb Bandodkar International Mopa Airport Namikaran Samiti “ Goa’ gathered in Mapusa to protest against Dhavalikar’s volte face over naming of the Mopa airport.
Dhavalikar recently said that he has no problem if the Center decides to name the Mopa airport after former union defence minister, Manohar Parrikar.
Last month MGP President Deepak Dhavalikar had said a resolution demanding renaming of the Mopa airport after Bhausaheb Bandodkar was sent to the PM and union minister for civil aviation.
