OPV Shaunak delivered to ICG
VASCO: Goa Shipyard Limited delivered its fourth 105M offshore patrol vessel (OPV) 'ICGS SHAUNAK' to the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) on February 5.
The OPV was handed over by RAdm Shekhar Mital, NM, IN (Retd) CMD, GSL to DIG T Sashikumar, TM Commanding Officer (YD 1221) in the presence of DIG Arun Shrivastav, TM, Principal Director (MAT) Indian Coast Guard and DIG Atul Parlikar CGRPS (Goa) and other GSL officials. It is scheduled to be commissioned in ICG later this month.
Mithal stated that GSL has delivered all four ships of the 6 CGOPVs ahead of schedule.
Mithal said that this OPV is the fourth in the class of six OPVs being built by GSL for ICG and that the induction of 'SHAUNAK' will help meet the increasing requirement of the ICG for undertaking policing and patrolling of the Indian Exclusive Economic Zone, he said.
