Seminar on ReCAAP today
VASCO: The Indian Coast Guard will organise an international seminar on 'Regional Cooperation for Safe and Secure Seas' to commemorate its 40th anniversary and 10th anniversary of Regional Cooperation Agreement on Combating Piracy and Armed Robbery in Asia (ReCAAP).
The seminar will be organised at Hotel Radisson at Cavelossim on Wednesday.
Governor Mridula Sinha will inaugurate the seminar in the presence of Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar and Indian Coast Guard (ICG) Director General PTM, TM Rajendra Singh.
Speaking to The Goan, ICG DIG Manoj Baadkar said ReCAAP, a government funded body, is based in Singapore and covers 20 Asian countries. “Besides delegates from 20 Asian countries, the seminar will be also attended by eight other delegates from other countries,” he added.
“ReCAAP is the first regional government-to-government agreement to promote and enhance cooperation against piracy and armed robbery against ships in Asia and it was finalised on November 11, 2004, and entered into force on September 4, 2006.”
