Order reserved in Remo case for 7 January

PANAJI: The Children's Court has reserved its order for January 7 on the application for monitoring of the police investigation into the case of verbal abuse of the victim by Remo Fernandes.

Arguing the maintainability of his application for court-monitoring of the investigation, Adv Aires Rodrigues pointed out that Remo had assured Agassaim police that as soon as he arrives in Goa, he would submit before the police.

“Yet, he applied for anticipatory bail on arrival, and even managed to slip past the airport police in the wee hours of January 1,” Adv Rodrigues said.

Adv Rodrigues had submitted an application requesting the Children’s Court to monitor the police investigation in view of the fact that Remo, being an influential individual, could bring in political pressure.

Stressing on the need to monitor the police investigation, Adv Rodrigues pointed out that a show cause order has been issued against the IO by the superiors for issuing a lookout notice.

Countering the application, Public Prosecutor Krishna Sanzgiri said, “The police have nothing to hide and allegations of political pressure are wrong.”

It was informed that the Agassaim police have submitted the case papers to the court.

However, president of Children’s Court Vandana Tendulkar observed that only the High Court has the power to monitor police investigation in this manner. It was also noted that all the allegations by the applicant are against the accused, and not against the investigating officer.
