A Mapusa court on Tuesday reserved orders on bail applications of self-styled RTI activist Deepak Gadekar, two policemen and three other accused in connection with Rs 10.20 lakh robbery case at Calangute Police.
Additional District and Session Court-I Judge P V Sawaikar reserved the bail application orders of the two policemen for December 28, while orders of Deepak Gadekar and the other three accused have been reserved for December 29 and 31 respectively, on conclusion of arguments by the Public Prosecutor and counsel for the accused.
It may be recalled that self-styled RTI activist Deepak Gadekar and four others had allegedly robbed a businessman, Karthik Kotiam, who had come to exchange Rs 10.20 lakh in new notes for demonetised notes.
Opposing the Deepak Gadekar’s bail plea Public Prosecutor, Anuradha Talaulikar argued that Gadekar was the main accused and the total amount of the cash was yet to be recovered.
Countering his counsel’s argument that the accused was medically unwell on account that he was admitted in IPHB, the PP said that he was mentally fit and if necessary, his health was monitored at the GMC.
The counsel of the two policemen “ Keshav Naik and Mahendra Mandrekar “ submitted that the investigation authorities had already recovered the amount from the two cops and therefore their custody was not required.
The PP said that the two cops were directly involved in the crime and some more recovery was yet to be made.
The counsel of the other three accused “ Gautam Korgoankar, Pritesh Agarwadekar and Atmaram Malvankar “ argued that the investigation authorities were hesitating to take action against some of their own men and were therefore doing partiality.
He said that Gadekar had mentioned the involvement of a PI, PSI and a havaldar and also mentioned their names in the case and wondered why the three police officials were not arrested.
He also stated that the incident had taken place on December 1 but the FIR was registered only on December 17 and questioned the delay in filing the case.
He further said that the three were co-accused in the case and wouldn’t contribute much in the case.
Stating that it was important to go into the bottom of the case, the PP urged the court to dismiss their bail application as the probe was still on.

Journos, lawyers named by prime accused
MAPUSA: The ongoing investigation into the Rs 10.20 lakh cash robbery case in Calangute has brought out some interesting facts.
Sources told The Goan that the prime accused, the self-styled RTI activist Deepak Gadekar has revealed a host of high profile names who either used or benefited from his “activism trade”.
The accused has named lawyers and some Panaji and Mapusa-based journalists too in the course of his interrogation, police sources said.
It may be recalled Gadekar had also mentioned the names of some senior police officers during his interrogation.
