Over a hundred components of comunidades attended the comunidade awareness fellowship held at Sainik building house in Defence Colony, Porvorim. Many also watched the proceedings on the live newsfeed, according to the newsfeed of Goa Comunidade Ganvkari.
According to a press release, men and women from all over Goa made it to the event which started at 5.30 pm and ended at around 8 pm.
Elsa Fernandes began the evening by taking the members through a holistic narrative of the evolution of Ganvkari and how the institution of comunidade will suffer if it is neglected by the community created by ancestors to safeguard it, the release adds.
Fr Visitacà o Monteiro struck a chord on the importance of land and tradition and how the two are entwined. Sigmund D'souza provided a legal perspective of comunidade in the past and how people of the present are trying to destroy the legacy of our ancestors, the release stated.
Former Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party MLA Sadanand Malik espoused the need for components of comunidade to be organized and spelt out the way forward when the government is trying to make it difficult.
The highlight of the evening was the question-answer session where doubts and apprehensions of those present were judiciously cleared by advocate Andre Pereira.
The evening started with those present humming to the song Ami Gaunkari composed by musician Sigmund D’souza and ended with all clapping for a show of solidarity, the release adds.
