Over 300 Loliem villagers get Covid jab at camp

CANACONA
306 Loliem-Polem villagers received the anti-Covid jabs on a single day at a special camp organised on Saturday.

A total of 172 persons above 60 years and 134 persons below 60 years of age took the jab at the day-long camp organised at Loliem-Polem panchayat Hall from 9 to 5.

Incidentally, the camp though held a day before the official prime minister announced 'Tikka Utsav' from April 11 to 14 all over the country, was the first to be conducted in Goa as part of the PM's campaign. Health sources informed that another camp is being organised in South Goa at Collem.

Interestingly, a heavy rush was witnessed throughout the day. The health staff was led by Health Officer Dr Jose Tavares.

Inaugurating the camp, Canacona MLA Isidore Fernandes again appealed to the people, who have already come in large numbers to take maximum benefits of this camp by getting vaccinated without fear, and stated Loliem-Polem village is lucky to be the first one to be allowed such a camp and credit for it goes to Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and the Health Minister.

After taking the jab, many of the people thanked the government for bringing the vaccination at the village door.

Thanking the people of Loliem-Polem, Fernandes said, it is high time all the eligible come out as the Covid active cases have now touched 60.

While the health team was assisted by villagers including sarpanch and panchas, doctors, one data operator, a staff nurse was part of the successful camp.

According to the Canacona Health Officer, cases are increasing in the taluka, and 12 more Covid cases were detected on Saturday.
