The five-hour protests by mining dependents at Panaji had a major impact at the Dabolim airport on Monday, as over 300 passengers missed their flights and some airlines took the rare decision of delaying their flights to accommodate the stranded passengers.
According to Dabolim Airport Director B C H Negi, for the Jet Airways Goa-Mumbai (9W 627) 2.35 pm flight 27 passengers were affected. They were either accommodated on the next available flight or given a full refund.
“It was the same for Vistara Goa-Delhi (UK-884) 2.20 pm flight and SpiceJet Goa-Delhi (SG 172) 2.35 pm flight, where 58 passengers did not
show up and the flight was delayed by 35 minutes,” said Negi.
Negi informed that the SpiceJet Goa-Mumbai (SG 454) 1.30 pm flight had 24 passengers who did not turn up and the flight delayed by 32 minutes, while the SpiceJet Goa-Pune (SG 517) 2 pm flight had 37 passengers who did not show up and the flight delayed by 22 minutes.
The SpiceJet Goa-Chennai (SG 3106) 5.05 pm flight had 14 no-show passengers and the flight was delayed by 15 minutes, while the Air India Goa-Mumbai (AI 664) 3.20 pm flight was delayed by 25 minutes, to accommodate the passengers stranded by the protests in Panaji.
Passengers who missed the Air Asia Goa-Delhi flight were accommodated on the next available flight, Negi said.
Those who missed their flights included 28 passengers on the IndiGo Goa-Mumbai (6E 813) 4.45 pm flight, 23 passengers on the IndiGo Goa-Hyderabad (6E 381) 2.45 pm flight, 63 passengers on the IndiGo Goa-Mumbai (IndiGo 6E 712) 2.45 pm flight, 37 passengers on the IndiGo Goa-Kolkata (IndiGo 6E 292) 3 pm flight and 50 passengers on the IndiGo Goa-Delhi (IndiGo 6E 332) 2.10 pm flight.
“We delayed 5 flights by 20 to 25 mins to accommodate passengers and all passengers were moved to other flights and also accommodated for Tuesday flights,” said Negi.
