Girls outshone boys again in the SSC examination held by the Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education registering an overall pass percentage of 96.64, results of which were announced on Saturday.
Addressing the media, Goa Board Chairman, Bhagirath Shetye said out of 19,958 students that appeared for the March 2023 exams, 19,288 cleared the examination. Last year the pass percentage was 92.75.
The exams were held at 31 centres across the State.
This year, the exams were conducted in two terms -- first term from November 10 to November 29, 2022 and second term from April 1 to April 24, 2023. The final result was based on performance of first term exam, second term exam and the internal assessment.
This year too, girls registered a better pass percentage than boys. Out of 10,071 boys that appeared, 9,706 cleared the examination registering a pass percentage of 96.37 while 9,582 girls cleared the examination out of 9,887 registering a pass percentage of 96.92.
In all 7,151 students availed sports merit marks while 197 candidates passed the exams with the help of sports marks. Out of 402 schools in Goa, 187 schools achieved 100% results of which 48 are government schools, 128 aided and 11 unaided.
Mormugao taluka that has 34 schools, registered the lowest pass percentage of 95.16 while Pernem having 33 schools registered the highest percentage of 98.84 Shetye disclosed.
Shetye further said that only one marksheet combining the performance of 1st term, 2nd term and internal assessment will be issued to the students.
Last date for re-evaluation of answer books and verification of marks in absentia is May 29 while the supplementary examination will be held in mid-June, he said.
