Owners given six months for claims on abandoned vehicles in Margao, Fatorda

Notice issued for disposal of 39 abandoned vehicles

MARGAO
Owners of vehicles abandoned in the commercial capital have six months to lay claim to the vehicles or face disposal by the district authorities.
In fact, South Goa District Magistrate, Egna Cletus, has issued a proclamation for the disposal of 39 abandoned vehicles in Margao and Fatorda after a six-month period.
Acting upon the reports submitted by the Traffic Cell, Margao and Fatorda, the District Magistrate has called upon all persons claiming interest in the vehicles to submit their claims (if any), along with documentary evidence, to the Deputy Collector & Sub-Divisional Magistrate-I, Margao-Goa, within six months from the date of publication of this proclamation.
The Collector has warned that if no objections/claims are received within the stipulated period, the vehicles shall be forfeited in favour of the State Government and shall be disposed of through public auction as provided under law, or through such mode as approved by this office. No further claims will be entertained from anyone thereafter, and the proceeds shall be forfeited to the Government.
The proclamation has been issued after the Deputy Collector & SDM-I, Margao, and the Deputy Superintendent of Police (Traffic), South, Margao, submitted a list of abandoned/unclaimed vehicles lying for a long period within the jurisdiction of the Traffic Cell of Margao and Fatorda.
The reports stated that the abandoned vehicles have become breeding grounds for mosquitoes, which cause a rise in vector-borne diseases and thereby pose a health hazard to the general public. Besides, the reports stated that the vehicles within the jurisdiction of Margao and Fatorda have been causing obstruction, inconvenience, and potential hazards to the public.
“Such abandoned vehicles are likely to cause a nuisance, pose a risk to public safety, and may lead to criminal activities or be used for unlawful purposes,” the report stated.
A glance at the list of abandoned vehicles compiled by the office of the DySP, Traffic, showed that the abandoned vehicles have been lying across the city, right from Aquem to Azad Nagar, to Sirvodem and Khareband.
In the Fatorda area, abandoned vehicles have been found opposite the Durga petrol pump, Arlem, opposite Babu Naik Hall on the Borda road, and near the N D Naik garage, Arlem.
