'Oxygen requirement may increase to 3 cr litre per day'

PANAJI
Dean of Goa Medical College and Hospital Dr S M Bandekar informed that Goa’s premier government medical institution is struggling to keep up with the steepest increase in demand for oxygen in recent times. “The kind of oxygen requirement we have in Goa was never there before and it will probably never be there in future. The present daily requirement of liquid oxygen at GMC is one crore litres. We are projecting three times and we believe that this can increase as high as three crore litres per day over the coming days,” Dr Bandekar said.

The requirement of liquid oxygen is much lesser at South Goa District Hospital, ESI Covid Hospital and Sub District Hospital in Ponda, where cylinder oxygen is also being plied into use to ensure sufficient provision.

On Tuesday evening, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant announced that Vedanta SESA has volunteered to supply three tonnes of liquid oxygen per day from their VAB plant at Amona, Navelim. He took to Twitter to thank the company for lending a helping hand to the state government during this difficult phase of the pandemic.
