PANAJI
The growing scare over Coronavirus failed to dampen Holi celebrations in Panaji, Margao and Vasco where hundreds of revellers participated in the festivities, but it took the sting out of the revelry in Mapusa on Tuesday.
The Panaji Shigmotsav Samiti which organised the main celebration at Azad Maidan saw hundreds of people participating.
Due to the Coronavirus threat, the celebrations were held in an open ground and not inside a pandal as was the case in previous years.
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant was conspicuous by his absence even as his close confidantes claimed he was busy in his constituency Sanquelim campaigning for the March 22 Zilla Parishad polls.
Panaji MLA Atanasio Monserrate, Mayor Uday Madkaikar and former MLA Sidharth Kuncoliencar were present for the celebrations. Many foreign tourists were also seen participating in the celebrations at Azad Maidan.
In Margao, the virus scare failed to dampen the celebrations as the festivities organized by Fatorda Youth Club and MLA Vijai Sardesai’s ‘We for Fatorda’ drew a huge crowd of revellers. Men and women, the young and old participated in the festivities, unmindful of the Central government’s advisory to the people to avoid mass gatherings.
