The car-park opposite Santa Monica jetty is expected to sort out a lot of traffic congestion which happens because tourists, who go to casinos in Mandovi river and boat-rides, park their cars on the main road, sometimes even on the pavement, resulting in a lot
of chaos.
Spread over 13,556 square meters, the multi-level car-park has ground, plus three floors, and over and above that it even has a terrace, where cars can be parked as well. Overall, 462 cars can be parked at this car park. Besides, additional 33 cars can be accommodated in the open space outside MLC building.
Dilip Parulekar, tourism minister, said, “The soft-launch of multi-level car parking project in Panaji will take place on May 9, at 10:30 am. Apart from it, we are planning to create multi-level car parking projects even at Calangute, Anjuna and Colva as these places get a lot of vehicles from outside of Goa, which creates parking issues. We are even planning to get funding for the same from the Central government.”
When asked what will be the parking charges at multi-level car-parking at Panaji, Parulekar replied, “Tendering process will decide the parking charges.”
The tendering process will finalise the private company, which will take care of running of the multi-level car-parking project.
