MARGAO
The South Goa Sessions Court will conduct trial of the Panaji police station attack case allegedly involving Revenue Minister, Atanasio Monserrate, Taleigao MLA Jennifer Monserrate and 35 other accused on a weekly basis, beginning from February 17.

The matter came up for hearing for the first time before South Goa Sessions judge, Irshad Agha on Tuesday noon, days after the High Court had transferred the case to the South Goa Sessions Court. Barring Atanasio, Jennifer and a couple of accused persons, who were granted exemption from appearance, the remaining accused persons appeared before the Sessions Judge with their lawyers.

After the accused made their presence felt in the accused box, Judge Agha informed the defence lawyers that he intends to hear the case every Friday, beginning from February 17.

The Judge directed all the accused to remain present on the next date of hearing, saying the matter will be taken up on every Friday from February 17. The cross examination of prosecution witness No. 1 will be taken up for hearing at the next date of hearing.

The Court will also pass an order at the next date of hearing on the application moved by one of the accused for renewal of his passport.
