Amid a spate of break-ins across Goa, Panaji has reported three separate bike thefts in the span of two weeks. Incidentally, all these bikes are Honda Activa scooters stolen from open parking spaces in residential and commercial areas.
Police are probing whether the crimes are linked, as the suspects are yet unidentified.
In one complaint, the complainant Sanjay Sarmalkar alleged that his white Honda Activa (GA-07-M-1869) was stolen from the parking area on Dr Shirgaonkar Road between 8:30 pm on November 17 and 8:45 am on November 18.
In the second incident, Nehal Parekh reported that his father’s white Activa (GA-07-M-5561) was stolen from the building’s open parking near the Pharmacy College between November 17 and 18.
The third case was filed by Siddesh Arobekar, who stated that his grey Honda Activa (GA-07-AA-1674) was stolen around 11 pm on November 5 from an open parking space opposite a general store in Panaji. The police have registered FIRs in all the three cases even as the thieves are at large.
Police said they are seeking CCTV footage from the locations where the vehicles were parked. “We will examine whether the same accused were involved in all three cases or whether these are unrelated thefts,” a source said.
