Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Monday said the Goa government aims to complete the construction of the Goa Bhavan at Pandharpur before next year's Wari, ensuring affordable accommodation for Goan pilgrims undertaking the annual pilgrimage to the holy town in Maharashtra.
Speaking at a financial assistance and kit distribution programme for Warkaris, Sawant said the Goa Bhavan will come up on a nearly 2,000 sq m plot acquired by the State government at Pandharpur and will provide much-needed lodging facilities for devotees from Goa.
The Chief Minister said the government has extended financial assistance ranging from Rs 1 lakh to Rs 5 lakh to 36 registered Warkari groups, comprising over 3,000 Warkaris, to help meet expenses related to the annual pilgrimage.
He also announced that the State government's Dev Darshan Scheme will continue this year, reaffirming its commitment to promoting religious tourism and supporting devotees.
On the occasion, Sawant flagged off the registered Warkari Dindis from Goa for the pilgrimage to Pandharpur. The annual Wari will culminate on Ashadi Ekadashi, which falls on July 26 this year.
The programme was organised to support registered Warkari Dindis participating in the centuries-old pilgrimage.
State ministers Ramesh Tawadkar and Sudin Dhavalikar were also present on the occasion.
