Panel proposed for time-bound disposal of unclaimed bodies

In a bid to streamline the system of disposal of unclaimed dead bodies, a high level law and order meeting held here on Tuesday has called for constitution of a “Disposal panel” to review and monitor cases on a monthly basis.

The meeting, which discussed and deliberated on the issue, has decided that all cases of unclaimed dead bodies are handled promptly and disposed of in a lawful and dignified manner.


The law and order meeting was chaired by Egna Cleetus, IAS, District Magistrate, South Goa, H/c of Kushavati Districts and co-chaired by Santosh Desai, Superintendent of Police, South Goa, H/c of Kushavati District, along with Vishal Kundaikar, Additional Collector-III, South Goa, H/c of Kushavati District. Sub-Divisional Magistrate, DySPs, Sub-Divisional Police Officers, besides Police Inspectors of South Goa and Kushavati districts attended the meeting.

The district Collector later told the media that the issue is presently resolved after the Margao Municipal Council disposed of 20 unclaimed dead bodies. She said the government has also released the payments towards the disposal of the bodies.

Tenant verification

The meeting also reviewed the issue of tenant verification, with the Collector issuing directions to intensify public awareness and outreach to ensure compliance.

Regarding concerns of a potential fuel shortage, SDMs from both the districts informed that the situation remains under control.

Sand mining

It was also informed during the meeting that no cases of illegal sand mining have been reported across South Goa and Kushavati districts, reflecting effective monitoring and enforcement by the concerned authorities.

During events involving large public gatherings, it was directed that the deployment of an Executive Magistrate shall be mandatory. Emphasis was also laid on conducting regular monthly inspections of CCTV systems in police stations, with instructions to record any discrepancies in the prescribed register.

Child labour

To address the issues of child begging and child labour, a task force committee has been constituted. Additionally, discussions were held on strengthening 

traffic management and implementing measures to reduce road accidents across South Goa and Kushavati districts.
