Panel set up to save polluted rivers

The State government has constituted a high level committee headed by the Environment Secretary Daulat Hawaldar to formulate an action plan to restore Goa’s riverine-stretches which have been declared “polluted” by both the Central Pollution Control Board as well as the Goa State Pollution Control Board.   

 The twelve-member River Restoration Committee was notified recently by Director (Environment) Ravi Jha (IAS) who is also one of its members. Member Secretary of the Goa State Pollution Control Board has also been named ‘member secretary’ of the Committee.   

Besides Hawaldar and Jha, other members of the committee are: Urban Development Director, Chief Engineer of Water Resources Department, Director of Industries, Trade and Commerce, Health Director, Panchayats Director, Superintending Engineers of PWD’s Circle V (North Goa) and Circle VI (South Goa), Managing Director of Sewerage Infrastructure Development Corporation Goa Ltd and
