A day after the Margao Municipal Council sealed the Pantaloons showroom at the Osia Commercial Complex, the management of the mall came rushing to the civic body on Tuesday and cleared the tax arrears by submitting a demand draft amounting to Rs 34.25 lakh.
Archies, another establishment sealed by the civic body a couple of days ago, also submitted a demand draft amounting to Rs five lakh. Payments made by the two establishments on a single day have enriched the Margao Municipal Council coffers by close to Rs 40 lakh.
The Pantaloons showroom was shut for non-payment of tax. The action against Pantaloons had come around 12 days after the civic body had issued a notice on the premises owner to remit an amount of Rs 34.25 lakh to enable the municipality to issue the trade and occupation license to Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail Ltd.
MMC officials pointed out that the municipality will open the seals put on the shutters of Pantaloons with the payment of the tax dues.
