Para teachers agitating to demand regularisation as teachers in schools have threatened to stage a protest march at the BJP office if their demand is not fulfilled.
"When we staged protests, BJP leaders had assured that we would be made regular but till now our demand has not been met. We will march to the BJP office to remind them about their assurances,” said Smita Desai, leader of the para teachers, while addressing media persons.
“We will release videos of BJP leaders giving assurances on social media,” added Desai.
The para teachers staged a protest at Azad Maidan on Monday to demand they be made regular teachers in schools.
A total of 129 para teachers are participating in the agitation.
Smita Desai informed reporters that they have been in service on a contract basis since the last 15 years and said the government had not considered their demands.
“During the tenure of late Manohar Parrikar as chief minister, the government had assured to absorb us as permanent teachers and had told us to do job training (D.Ed). However, despite completing our D.Ed, the government has still not made us permanent teachers.”
“To make matters worse, the government directly recruited 182 new teachers in 2018 without considering us, para teachers.”
“In 2019, Power Minister Nilesh Cabral had assured to resolve our issue but no action has been initiated from his side so far,” said Desai.
