Parmaditya will supervise function of Superintendent of police of North and South, also Superintendent of Police (Traffic) and Crime will be supervised by him
PANAJI: An Indian police service officer from AGMUT cadre 2005 batch Paramaditya has been appointed as Deputy Inspector General of Police (Range) of Goa from Monday.
Parmaditya will supervise function of Superintendent of police of North and South, also Superintendent of Police (Traffic) and Crime will be supervised by him. He will be the head of the Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate mining related cases as IGP Jaspal Singh has been relieved from additional charge.
Goa police crime branch SIT is probing many cases related to mining.
The Supreme Court constituted Justice M B Shah Commission had in its report in 2012 stated that between 2005 to 2012 an illegal mining of Rs 3,000 crore had taken place in Goa. The commission has also pointed out some persons who are currently being investigated by the SIT.
In August 2013 a SIT was constituted and all illegal mining related cases were transferred to SIT. There are around half a dozen cases with SIT related to mining. Many politicians along with former Chief Minister Digambar Kamat is named in a chargesheet along with other persons.
Personnel department Under Secretary (personnel-II) Shashank Thakur issued this order on Monday.
Paramaditya was serving a Deputy commissioner of police- security in Delhi before being transferred to Goa in July 2018.
He was deputed to Goa in July 2017 and has reported for duty in Goa administration on 19 July 2018.
Maintaining law and order in the absence of chief minister Manohar Parrikar who is taking treatment in AIIMS Delhi in the upcoming touristic season in the state will be a challenge for the new DIG. Controlling people during upcoming agitations like of the mining department people agitation and controlling drugs, prostitution and traffic will also be challenging to the new DIG.
