Drive against plastic menace to begin from July

Parrikar was speaking after inaugurating the newly-buidt community hall under the MPLAD scheme above new fish market at Mardol. Minister of State AYUSH Shripad Naik, Minister for Art and Culture Govind Gaude, ZP member Shivdas Gaude, Veling-Priol-Cuncoliem sarpanch Damodar G Naik and other panchas were present, while former speaker Adv Vishwas Satarkar was in
the audience.
“We had developed CSF and GRF some years back. There must be atleast Rs 600-700 crore deposited in it. Some might not know about it, but it can be utilised for the purpose,” he said.
Referring to the demand by Priol MLA Gaude of setting up a cold storage unit in Mardol as his constituency cultivates vegetables and fruits, Parrikar said he is ready to sanction it on condition that an ‘action plan’ is submitted.
“Tell me how you will run it and how you will take care of maintenance. Give me an action plan for it,”
Parrikar said.
Stressing on the need for a ‘sinking fund’, he said after the panchayat election, the proposal of ‘sinking fund’ concept will be sent to all the local bodies.
“If you deposit some of your revenue in these funds, then it can be very helpful to you (local bodies),” he said.
Parrikar also said new guidelines will be announced to eradicate the menace of plastic usage. “We will combat against plastic menace from July, and those selling and purchasing plastic bags will be fined,” he added.
Shripad Naik said sarpanchas should send a proposal of development works. “Priority will be given to works which helps the society. Let us come together for development works,” Naik said.
Govind Gaude sought cooperation from the public to undertake development works, and reiterated that water scarcity problem in his constituency will be resolved.
