Savoikar was addressing a gathering after inaugurating South Goa’s fourth PRS of Konkan Railway Corporation (KRC) at Canacona.
Shortly after inaugurating the counter, Savoikar in the presence of Canacona MLA Isidore Fernandes booked the first ticket from the Canacona PRS on his name from the KRC Station Canacona to the KRC at Margao.
Others present at the function included CMC Chairperson Prathana Naik Gaunkar, Deputy Chairperson Samita Dhuri, ex-Canacona MLA Vijay Poi Khot, a few councillors, Canacona Mamlatdar Ramesh Gaonkar, Postmaster General Vinod Kumar Verma, Postal Department Sr Superintendent Archana Gopinath and KRC officials M Salman and Baban Ghatge.
Savoikar also appreciated a resident, Diogo Da Silva, for his efforts in demanding the reservation counter at Canacona for the people in the taluka, as they had no option but to travel to Margao and stand in long queues to book tickets for different trains.
Isidore requested the railway authorities to provide stops for Mangalore-CST trains and other interstate trains, particularly running to and from Delhi, to halt at Canacona railway station.
The MLA has also appealed to the railways to upgrade the Canacona and Loliem stations, which presently have halts only for 2-3 trains. KRC GM Joseph George later proposed the vote of thanks.
Incidentally, the KRC had announced over a year ago that an online reservation counter would be set up at Canacona, following demands from Canacona. However, the online reservation counter is yet to be set up, but residents can benefit from the PRS at the Canacona Post Office.
