Unable to field a volley of questions from the traditional fishermen inhabiting the coastal belt, spanning from Mormugao and Salcete over the whip cracked against the fish activity outside the wholesale fish market, SGPDA officials told the fishermen to knock the doors of the High Court with an intervening application in the ongoing legal proceedings.
A SGPDA official, who was drafted by the PDA at the wholesale fish market to oversee the drive to put an end to the fish business, told the traditional fishermen to file an intervention application in the High Court with a plea to allow them to do business at the market on the plea that ramponkars have no fixed time for fishing and to bring the catch in the market.
“Since the matter is pending before the High Court, the ramponkars can very well move the Court with a plea to allow them to sell fish in the wholesale fish market throughout the day”, the official said.
The observation made by the PDA official, however, had no takers, with the ramponkars saying the PDA and the MMC should bring out the actual facts before the High Court and save their livelihood.
