A 78-year-old pedestrian from Ektanagar-Mapusa was fatally knocked down by a jeep on NH 66 highway at Guirim on Saturday. The incident took place at about 7.45 pm, as Anand Dharwadkar, a security guard at a mobile tower site on the premises of Ticlo petrol pump, was trying to cross the highway towards a two-wheeler parked on the other side of the road.

A jeep driven by Paresh Halarnakar of Porvorim was towing a power generator when the vehicle knocked down Dharwadkar, who died on the spot. The mishap disrupted traffic along the highway.

On receiving news of the incident, a Saligao police team rushed to the spot and Police Constable Pranesh Gawas conducted the panchnama. Saligao police and Traffic Police teams later regulated and restored traffic on the highway.
