The Penha de Franca Panchayat has decided to set up a project to treat dry waste generated in the village and will also rename a road after Goa's first assembly speaker late P P Shirodkar.
Addressing a news conference in the community hall at Porvorim, Penha-da-Franca Sarpanch Visranti Dessai said the panchayat has received a proposal from Hanje Hydrotech Company from Sangli to set up a project to treat the dry waste generated in the panchayat area.
“Machinery will be installed in the open space area offered by Goa Housing Board to the panchayat on a lease period of 99 years. This project when commissioned will reduce the problem of dry garbage generated in the panchayat area substantially. The panchayat is sending wet garbage to the garbage treatment plant at Calangute,” said Dessai.
Dessai said the panchayat has also decided to name the road from Ram Vadeswar temple to Subhashchandra Bose garden after the freedom fighter and first speaker of Goa Legislative Assembly late P P Shirodkar. “The naming ceremony will be done by Panchayat Minister Rajendra Arlekar on December 10.”
Dessai said the panchayat has also decided to install cervical cancer detection machine through MPLAD funds in the library premises of the panchayat. “Women from the panchayat area will get the benefit of this facility,” added Dessai.
Panch Radhika Sawant said the panchayat undertook several developmental works like tarring of internal roads, construction of drainages, protection walls, etc, through the panchayat funds during the last 2 years.
Panchas Umesh Fadte, Blanch D’Souza and Subhash Kalangutker were also present for the news conference. Deputy Sarpanch Ghanashyam Naik proposed vote of thanks.
