PORVORIM
Revenue Minister and Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte stated that support of the people is important for the panchayats and also for the State government to solve the problems like garbage and traffic.
He was speaking at the function organised by Kesari Club of Porvorim to felicitate teachers at
Socorro Panchayat hall at Porvorim.
"People are aware of the rights given to the citizens of India by the Indian Constitution, but some people forget their duties conveniently. The Penha-de-Franca Panchayat has been collecting garbage on door-to-door basis for the last seven years and yet garbage is seen by the side of the roads in Porvorim. This is because the residents throw their garbage by the roadside," he said.
"People don't even bother to observe traffic signal indicators. They feel that it is the duty of the elected representatives to look after the problems of water shortage, power fluctuation, garbage disposal, etc. They don't realise that the panchayat or the State machinery can't tackle the issues like garbage without the support of the people."
"The support of the residents is very important for the panchayats and also for the State government to solve the problems of garbage and traffic," said Khaunte.
He further said the ‘Start-up policy' of the government will come into force in November or December and the main objective of this policy is to make the youth ‘job givers' rather than ‘job seekers'. "The youth should not wait for government jobs, instead they should venture into business activities and be job givers. There is no future for pessimistic youth," said Khaunte.
Housing Board Minister Jayesh Salgaonkar urged the social organisation like Kesari Club of Porvorim to create awareness among the people about segregation of garbage, observing traffic signals, wearing helmets and farming.
The president of Kesari International also spoke on the occasion. Sagar Shet welcomed the gathering.
Four teachers - Santana Pereira, Arun Nagvekar, Anuradha Kadam and Pradosh Salkar were felicitated by Khaunte, while prizes to the winners of Ganesh decorations were given on the occasion.
Venkatesh Naik compered the programme, while Raja Kambil proposed the vote of thanks.
