Stating that people of Mapusa have given a mandate for development, leader of Mhapshekaranch Ekvott Sudhir Kandolkar on Monday said that the opposition-backed group along with the two independents will form the council in Mapusa.
“By electing nine of our candidates, Mhapshekars have given a mandate for development. People wanted a change from the old regime. People of Mapusa have reposed trust in us. We will honour the mandate given to us,” Kandolkar said.
He said the two independents who were elected were in touch with him and expressed their support to Mhapshekarancho Ekvott.
“Both the independents are in touch with us. They have assured to back us but one can never say anything in politics. But I have hope that they will be with us,” he said.
He further said there has been no development in Mapusa for the last 25 years and that is why the electorate gave a mandate to ME to bring about a change in Mapusa.
“We will take all the issues of Mapusa forward. The sewerage issue, cleaning of River Tar, parking and various other issues will be taken up on priority basis,” he said.
Kandolkar said his panel fell short of full majority because of the misuse of government machinery by the ruling BJP panel.
“The CM, ex-CM, local MLA and other leaders were all campaigning for the candidates of the ruling panel and some even went door to door,” he said and further alleged that “Vitamin M” also played a significant role in the election which has reflected on the final result.
“Hats off to the people of Mapusa that despite such a massive campaign by the ruling group, they reposed faith in us,” he said.
