Xavier Pereira and his family is set to create a record of sorts as he is set to be declared elected unopposed from Ward VIII (Vaswaddo) ward of Benaulim Panchayat after the Returning Officer has received his lone nomination paper for the ensuing polls.
For, this will be the third time that Xavier will represent the Vaswaddo ward in his political career. In fact, the Pereira family had represented the ward for the six previous terms and Xavier’s unopposed victory will help the family to retain the ward for the seventh time.
After it became clear that his election from Ward No VIII is a foregone conclusion after the Returning Officer received his lone nomination paper, Xavier told The Goan that he will be representing Vasvaddo ward for the third time in his career. He said the ward was earlier represented by his father Ambrose and wife Dielia twice. Wife Diella is contested the election from Mazilwado ward, he added.
