As many as nine candidates are set to be declared elected unopposed from Salcete, with Chandor showing the way with three members heading for election unopposed.
Even as a whopping 994 candidates have filed their nominations papers for the 33 village Panchayats in Salcete taluka, with 179 candidates filing their papers on the last day on Monday, these nine candidates have, three from Chandor, are all set to the declared elected unopposed.
Returning Officer Pravin Gawas informed that as many as six candidates are set to be declared unopposed in the four panchayats of Chandor-Cavorim, Ambelim, Macazana and Velim. Of the six candidates, three of them had filed their papers for Ward no IV, V and VI of Chandor-Cavorim panchayat, and one each in ward No VII of Ambelim panchayat, Ward no VI of Macazana and ward NO IV of Velim panchayat.
Another three candidates who have filed their papers before Returning Officer Laxmikhant Desai are set to be declared elected unopposed. They are Xavier Pereira (Ward no VIII of Benaulim panchayat), Dileshwar Naik (Ward no II of Nagoa) and Angela Dourado (Ward no V of Seraulim).
Tuesday is the day of scrutiny and all the three Returning Officers will take up the work of scrutiny in their respective offices on Tuesday morning.
