Following heavy rain and strong winds that triggered flooding in parts of Sattari Taluka, Poriem MLA and Goa Forest Development Corporation Chairperson Deviya Rane visited affected areas to assess the damage and review the situation. She directed government officials to take immediate action and stressed that public safety must remain the top priority.
During her visit, Rane inspected the flood-prone area around the Pali Datt Temple, where overflowing river water regularly floods the surroundings during the monsoon, affecting residents, devotees and motorists. She announced permanent measures to tackle the recurring problem.
As part of the plan, the retaining wall along the riverbank will be raised to stop floodwater from entering the temple premises and nearby areas. Public Works Department (PWD) engineers have been asked to inspect the site and submit a technical report. The project will be designed to withstand the river’s flow during heavy rains.
Rane also announced that the existing five pipe culverts will be replaced with a larger box culvert to improve the flow of rainwater and reduce waterlogging. Work is expected to begin next month after the remaining administrative and technical formalities are completed.
She also reviewed roads, drains, bridges and power supply affected by the rains, and directed officials to carry out immediate repairs where needed.
Residents welcomed the proposed flood-control measures, expressing hope that they would provide a lasting solution to the annual flooding around the Pali Datt Temple.
