PERNEM
Former Pernem Municipal Council (PMC) chairperson Isidore Fernandes was elected president of the Pernem Block Congress on Saturday.
The post had fallen vacant after outgoing president Umesh Talavanekar was elevated as general secretary of Congress in North Goa.
Isidore Fernandes has been an active member of Congress for past 20 years and had also served as chairperson of PMC for four years.
Fernandes said he was grateful to the party for the confidence expressed in him.
"I'll make sure the work and activities of Congress is known to people of Pernem constituency and will help strengthen the party.
“Pernem constituency faces a lot of problems, with the government and local MLA unable to solve them. We will highlight these issues and be the voice of the people,” said Fernandes.
