Pernem mundkars want changes to act scrapped

The Pernem Taluka Kul Mundkar Sangharsh Committee on Tuesday requested the State government to withdraw the 'Mundkar' amendment bill, failing which they have threatened to protest at the assembly complex during the upcoming assembly session.
Addressing a news conference at Bhagwati High School at Pernem, Deepesh Naik of Bardez Kul Mundkar Committee said the present Mundkar amendment bill is “grievous” and meetings were convened in each of the villages to create awareness.
“The government has dropped the Sunset Clause and Farming Contract from Goa Agricultural Tenancy. The government should return the cases, which are in civil court to the Mamlatdar court,” demanded Naik.
Santosh Mandrekar said if the amendment was not withdrawn, then all mundkars will agitate and the government will have to face the consequences.
Former Arambol sarpanch Daniel D'Souza alleged that the government has bowed down to the demands of the landlords and had amended the bill.
The committee has appealed to the people to attend the mundkars meeting at Pernem taxi stand on Janaury 7, and on January 9 at Arambol-Titha.
Committee president Narayan alias Zila Mayekar, Deepesh Naik of the Bardez committee, former Arambol sarpanch Daniel D'Souza, Santosh Mandrekar, Sanjay Berde of Mapusa Bodgeshwar Shetkari Organization, Sudhakarb Naik, Uttam Kashalkar, Chandrakant Naik and others were present at the news conference.
