Pharma exports made easier at Dabolim Airport

Very soon pharmaceutical companies will be able to get their exports custom cleared at Dabolim Airport itself, which will make the process of exports simpler and cheaper for such companies.

At present, pharma cargo, which is supposed to get exported through air, is first sent through road route from Goa to Mumbai Airport, which is not only expensive but is also time taking.

Therefore, it will be a major boost to pharmaceutical companies when their exports will get custom cleared at Dabolim Airport itself.

Satyajit Bhattacharya, Founder Secretary, Goa Air Cargo Association, said, “We are hoping to get all the necessary approvals by next week itself. After that, it will be possible to get pharmaceutical cargo custom cleared at Dabolim Airport. From Dabolim Airport, the cargo will go to Bangalore Airport and from there to its final destination in USA or Europe.”

Bhattacharya further said that 30 percent of pharma exports happening out of Mumbai Airport at present are manufactured in Goa. The fact that Mumbai Airport is over burdened with pharma cargo and other kinds of cargo at times causes delay in processing. All such hassles will be taken care of once pharma exports start getting custom cleared at Dabolim Airport itself.

Sanjay Priolkar, Past President, Goa Pharmaceutical Manufacturers’ Association (GPMA), said, “60-65% pharma units in the state are export oriented. Therefore, it will help if their exports can get custom cleared at Dabolim Airport.”

For this move to be successful, it will be crucial that pharmaceutical companies, in significant number, start sending their exports from Dabolim Airport. If they continue to send their cargo through Mumbai Airport, then this move will not be successful.

Sources further said that Dabolim Airport-Bangalore Airport-USA/Europe route is going to be cost effective for pharma companies. Therefore, it is expected that pharma companies will choose Dabolim Airport for their exports.
