According to Fernandes, his panel made a clean sweep in all the seven seats at Cotigao and will give a stable panchayat. “Our panel is forming the panchayats at Gaondongrim (woman sarpanch) by 6-3 majority, Loliem by (7-3), Poinguinim (5-4), Shristhal (4-3) and Agonda (5-2). In Cotigao, there is no opposition,” he said.
“We have already got the majority and expect to increase that number later, but it is upto to the elected panchas to choose their leaders for the posts of sarpanch and deputy sarpanch. I will not get personally involved in choosing their leaders, but all these six panchayats will be of my panel.”
“I thank the people for reposing faith in my abilities, though it’s been just 3-4 months since I have been a MLA and also congratulate the elected panchas. If all had reposed faith and decided to contest jointly, we would have swept all the panchayats here.”
BJP District (South) president Sarvanand Bhagat claimed that BJP would form panchayats in Agonda and Shristhal, besides efforts are on to win the confidence of majority of the elected members at Poinguinim Panchayat.
Speaking to the media, Bhagat without specifying the number said most elected panchas at Agonda and Shristhal are party supporters and the party will support them to form the new panchayats. “We also have the support of elected panchas at Poinguinim and we are going all out to form that panchayat too,” Bhagat stated.
Meanwhile, former minister and ex-Canacona MLA Ramesh Tawadkar said his supporters are likely to form panchayats at Gaondongrim and Poinguinim. “Most of the elected members are my supporters at Poinguinim and Gaondongrim. Once leader is chosen, both the panchayats will be formed by my panel of supporters.”
