MARGAO
Sleepy Betalbatim woke up to hear the news of a pig giving birth to two that resembled the face of a monkey.
When the piggery owner Desmond Andrade casually came to find out how many piglets the pig gave birth in his piggery on Thursday morning, he was shocked to find two of the piglets looking like a monkey.
He immediately informed his friend, Margao Municipal Councilor Johnny Crasto and uploaded the picture of the two piglets with a monkey face to his friends.
“I have never seen such a thing in my life since I have been running the piggery for over a decade”, Desmond told The Goan.
He informed that the pig gave birth to nine piglets in the morning, of which two were born with the monkey face. “The mother pig was not accepting these two offspring. Hence, I have fed them with kanji water to ensure they get some feed”, he said.
Johnny Crasto echoed similar sentiments. “I have never seen such piglets in my life. They resembled the face of a monkey. This is something very strange”, Johnny added.
By evening, neighbours came to see the rather strange-looking piglets, only to speculate how the two piglets could resemble the face of monkeys. It has been suggested to the owner to bring the strange piglets to the notice of the veterinary doctors to conduct a study.
Even as the monkey face of the piglets has baffled the piggery owner and the neighbours, with the two piglets born with a protruding face and facial hair resembling a monkey, veterinary sources say the two piglets may have been born with a deformed face of a monkey.
Though the news has not reached veterinary experts, sources say similar instances had been reported in the past in countries of South America and China, and the study had reportedly attributed the birth of the piglets with monkey face to deformity.
