The Goa unit of Coast Guard has scaled down search operations of the missing crew of the ‘Shri Krishna 8’ barge which went missing off Goa Coast"We have basically scaled down search and rescue operations of the crew members of the ill-fated barge which had gone missing while it was coming to Goa from the Jaigarh port,” Coast Guard DIG Arunabh Bose told reporters.
“We had initially deployed our ships and aircraft for operations but we have now scaled down and instructed ships in transit and aircraft on routine flight to be on the lookout as we continue search operations," said DIG Bose.
“We are still on the lookout and we are also constantly in touch with Dy Collector or coastal police or fisheries department if any bodies have been found, because it is very unlikely for the remaining crew to have survived the incident. We can close operations after we get the other four bodies," said Bose
It may be recalled that the barge ‘Shri Krishna 8’ with 10-member crew had left from Jaigarh in Maharashtra on November 30 and was proceeding towards Goa, when it went missing off the Goa Coast.
On receipt of information, the Coast Guard Goa unit on December 2 immediately launched its helicopter and ships along with Dornier sorties for search and rescue operations.
While the Coast Guard picked up two survivors and one body, three other crew members had been found by three different fishing boats and the survivors were sent for further medical treatment by Coast Guard. Efforts had been on to locate the four other missing crew.
