OLD GOA

Superior General of the Society of Pilar Dr Sebastiao Mascarenhas has exhorted the seminarians of Pilar Society to develop a selfless sacrificial self-emptying love that gives of oneself totally and expects nothing.

He was delivering his homily at the Eucharistic celebration in the All India Mission Seminary chapel on Friday, to mark the inauguration of the new formation and academic year 2021-22.

During the Eucharist, the Superior General conferred the ministry of Lector on five scholastics of the second year and the ministry of Acolyte on nine scholastics of the third year.

After the Eucharistic celebration, the seminary choir presented an instrumental piece ‘Allegro Assai’.

Dr Mascarenhas then inaugurated the Formative Year 2021-22 by unveiling the logo of the Seminary Year. The theme for the Seminary Year is “Compassionate like the Father.”

The Rector, Fr Peter Melo Fernandes, welcomed the gathering, while the annual Theological Journal, ‘Euntes Docete’ was released by Dr Mascarenhas and the hand book of the Pilar Theological College was released by Dr Donato Rodrigues, professor of bioethics at the Rachol Seminary.

In his address, the Superior General thanked everyone for their contribution to the Seminary and spoke of the need for contemplative compassion today.

The Lectio Brevis ‘Human-animal cybrid embryos: A Catholic bioethical consideration’ was delivered by Fr Russel Fernandes, SFX and was moderated by Dr Rodrigues. There was an active discussion on the topic and the function ended with the Pilar Anthem.
