Pilar Society Sisters elect new Superior General

Sr Luiza Fernandes from Gogol, Margao was elected the new Superior General of the ‘Society of the Missionary Sisters of Our Lady of Pilar’ (MSP) during their First General Chapter, which is still in session.
Sr Sandia Azavedo, Sr Mary Fernandes, Sr Annie Fernandes and Sr Isabel De Souza were elected as General Councillors.
The Pilar Sisters Association which began in 1988 on September 8, was erected as a Society of Apostolic Life on May 13, 2017. Sr Isabel De Souza was nominated as the first Superior General of the Society.
The First General Chapter was inaugurated on May 15 at a solemn Eucharistic celebration, which was presided over by Bishop Emeritus of Port Blair Alex Dias, SFX, at the Shrine of Our Lady of Pilar.
The theme of the Chapter, “Transformed by the love of Christ; Passionate for the Mission”, reflects the direction in which the young Society is looking to move forward.
On May 21, Archbishop of Goa and Daman Filipe Neri Ferrao celebrated the solemn Eucharist of the Holy Spirit and set in motion the elective process of the Superior General and the General Councillors. During his homily, he exhorted the capitulars to be passionate for the missions like St Francis Xavier.
The Missionary Sisters of Our Lady of Pilar collaborate with the members of the Society of the Missionaries of St Francis Xavier (Society of Pilar), bringing the message of Christ to the poor and the marginalised especially to women and children in the missions of Arunachal Pradesh, Delhi, Nagar Haveli, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab and Goa.
