Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte along with officials from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and WRD inspected the Mapusa Tar river from Guirim till Gawasawadda on Tuesday morning.
They were also accompanied by farmers from Socorro and Guirim.
"Mud has gone into the river due to ongoing work of the highway. I have asked officials to clear the river so that adjacent fields do not get submerged during monsoons," said Khaunte.
Khaunte has been inspecting the river for the last three years but locals claim there has been no significant action by the government to resolve the issue. There are also concerns that the debris from the river is unlikely to clear before the monsoons.
