The Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) has opened new payment counters in the basement of the council building for the benefit of public.
Sources in MMC said while the second floor was taken up for renovation, the earlier space where counters were placed got flooded in the recent rains, prompting authorities to find alternative space for the counters.
"The MMC has temporarily shifted its cash collection counters to the office of the excise department, which was earlier located at the ground floor of MMC building, towards its South side.”
“The decision to shift the tax collection counters was taken by MMC in view of ongoing renovation work of MMC building," said the source.
"The tax collection counters of the MMC also handle registration-cum-issuance of birth and death certificates, collection of revenue from municipal tenants involving house tax and several others, inward of documentations and issuance of income certificates," added the source.
