PORVORIM
A group of angry residents from Pilerne demonstrated at the Porvorim Power sub station on Tuesday morning to complain about the erratic power supply in their village.
The aggrieved locals were involved in heated discussions with electricity department Assistant Engineer Anil Kumar about the constant power outages.
In a memorandum submitted to Kumar, residents complained that load shedding had made life miserable. They claimed that worst affected were small traders and self-employed people who were unable to earn their livelihood due to frequent disruption in power supply.
They also claimed that power outages for several hours a day had spoilt food items in refrigerators, while electrical appliances were getting damaged due to low voltage.
The residents complained that the problem of erratic voltage has been going on since last couple of months and despite repeated complaints, nothing was being done.
Claiming to paying electricity bills regularly, the aggrieved residents said they have the right to demand uninterrupted power supply.
The memorandum alleged that power is being supplied by electricity department to commercial establishment and nearby industrial units, while load shedding is being done for residential premises.
“This is a temporary problem and the electricity department is in the process of laying underground cables from Porvorim to Saligao to resolve this problem,” said Anil Kumar.
But the residents demanded an immediate solution to their problems. After failing to satisfy the agitated residents, Kumar said he would give a reply to their memorandum within four days.
