With the panchayat sports complex lying incomplete since the last seven years, the Pilerne-Marra panchayat has now decided to lay the lawn and construct changing rooms at the sports complex at a cost of Rs 50 lakh from the panchayat fund.
A proposal in this regard has been forwarded to the Mapusa Block Development Office for approval.
Confirming this, Pilerne Sarpanch Sandeep Bandodkar said the foundation stone for the Pilerne panchayat sports complex was laid by then sports minister Ramesh Tawadker in the presence of former minister and then Saligao MLA Dilip Parulekar on May 9, 2013
“On this occasion, Tawadker had assured that work on the playground would be completed within two years. It is more than seven years now that the work of the ground is still pending for want of funds. About 80% of the work of the ground is complete,” said Bandodkar.
He informed that work to lay the lawn and to construct a changing room for players is pending.
“The Sports Authority of Goa is prepared to provide the required financial assistance, but possession of the ground will have to given to the SAG once the work is completed.”
“The amount received from 14th Finance Commission is pending with the panchayat but it cannot be spent without the consent of the central government.”
“Hence, the panchayat decided to complete the remaining work on the ground by spending the required amount of around Rs 50 lakh from the panchayat fund and retain possession of the ground,” said Bandodkar.
