A playground meant for over 1,000 students of two schools at New Vaddem, Vasco, has been misused for parking and anti-social activity by miscreants, prompting the staff of both schools to seek urgent intervention and action from authorities.
According to sources, the playground is always occupied by locals to park their cars.
"The use of playground to park cars by locals has deprived students of using the playground. Even worse, the playground is used by miscreants in the evenings for drinking and anti-social activities. Many miscreants also break window panes at the school,” said the source.
“There are so many bottles scattered and the staff have to clean the place before students arrive at the school to ensure they do not get hurt and it does not create a negative impact on them. The schools have complained to authorities on several occasions, but nothing has happened till date," said the source.
Speaking to reporters, Government High School Headmistress Sonali Pednekar complained that the entire playground was used for parking by locals, causing inconvenience to students.
"When we arrive at school in the morning, the entire ground is full of parked cars. There are so many bottles on the ground because the miscreants use it for anti-social activities.”
“When we had previously complained, the Vasco Traffic Cell took action and people stopped parking vehicles on the ground, but now they have resumed parking their vehicles and authorities must act and find a permanent solution," said Pednekar.
Vaddem Nagar English High School Headmaster Dilip Parab said the school staff had to clean the ground daily before the school could start, to clear the mess caused by miscreants.
"This cleanliness drive has become a daily affair. Students of both schools are suffering because locals are parking the cars in the playground and miscreants are misusing the place. This has to stop and authorities like the police and the municipal council must act on this issue," said Parab.
